I'm Lyton — a front-end engineer and UI/UX designer. I spend half my time in the browser and half in Figma, which means the interfaces I ship usually look the way they were meant to.

About

I’m Lyton, a software engineer based in Lusaka, Zambia. I focus on front-end development — building the part of a product people actually touch — and I design a lot of what I build myself, in Figma, before a single component exists.

That order matters. Interfaces that are designed and built by the same person tend to skip the round trip where a design gets simplified because it was never checked against a real component library, or a build gets messy because nobody thought through the states a screen actually needs.

Right now I’m splitting time between client front-end work and getting comfortable further down the stack.

Where design meets code

Two skill sets, one person. Here’s roughly how the work splits.

Front-end engineering

Building interfaces that hold up in production — componentised, typed, and fast on a slow connection.

UI / product design

Designing in Figma with real content and real constraints, so the handoff to code doesn't lose anything.

  • Design systems
  • Prototyping

The gap between them

Most delays happen at the handoff. Doing both sides means fewer redesigns after the build starts.
